چکیده

background and aims: plasma rich in growth factors (prgfs) has been recently proposed as an aid to enhance regeneration of osseous and epithelial tissues in oral surgery. the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of local application of platelet rich plasma (prp) on implant stability measured by periotest. materials and methods: a total of 24 implants were placed in mandible of 12 lower edentulous patients. in each patient, 2 implants were placed anterior to mental foramen in bilateral canine sites. one implant in each patient was dipped in autogenous prp before insertion (test group), while the other implant was not embedded in prp (control group). repeated stability measurements were done by periotest on the day of surgery, 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after surgery. results: in both groups minimum periotest values (highest stability) was observed in the day of surgery and 8 weeks after surgery. the maximum periotest values (lowest stability) were observed in 4th week after surgery. considering implant stability, no statistically significant differences was observed between test and control groups at any time (p>0.05). in prp group, the difference in implant stability between the day of surgery to 2nd and 4th weeks were statistically significant (p<0.05). conclusion: application of prp on implant surface did not have an additional effect on implant stability in mandible.

Effect of Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) and Implant Surface Topography on Implant Stability and Bone.

PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) and different implant surface topography on implant stability and bone levels around immediately loaded dental implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS Dental implants were placed in subjects divided into two groups and four subgroups on basis of implant treatment with PRP and implant surface topography used. A total of 30 implants were plac...

Effect of platelet concentration in platelet-rich plasma on peri-implant bone regeneration.

This study analyzed the effect of the platelet count in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on bone regeneration in vivo. Twenty male New Zealand white rabbits were used. PRP was produced using the Platelet Concentrate Collection System (PCCS) (3i, Miami, FL, USA). After inducing ketamine-xylazine anaesthesia, a self-tapping titanium screw (Branemark MK III TiUnite, 3.75 x 7 mm) was inserted in each dis...

Platelet Rich Plasma: Review of Literature

Objective: At present, growth factor-containing products such as enamel matrix derivatives, recombinant bone morphogenetic protein (rh-BMP), recombinant platelet derived growth factor and platelet rich plasma (PRP) have gained increasing attention. PRP is an autologous source of platelet growth factors used to enhance healing of soft and hard tissues. PRP has gained popularity due to its auto...

The healing effect of platelet-rich plasma on xenograft in peri-implant bone defects in rabbits.

BACKGROUND The association of biomaterial combined with repair factor-like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has prospective values. Bovine-derived xenograft has been identified as an osteoconductive and biocompatible grafting material that provides osseointegration ability. PRP has become a valuable adjunctive agent to promote healing in a lot of dental and oral surgery procedures. However, there are...

Evaluation of the Possible Synergic Regenerative Effects of Platelet-Rich Plasma and Hydroxyapatite/Zirconia in the Rabbit Mandible Defect Model

Background: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bioceramics such as hydroxyapatite (HA) and zirconium oxide (ZrO2) are used to reconstruct mandibular defects. We sought to determine the synergistic effects of HA/ZrO2 and PRP and compare their osteogenic activity. Methods: ZrO2 scaffolds were constructed by the slurry method and were then coated with HA and impregnated by PRP/heparan sulfate (HS). Bil...

Inhibitory activities of platelet-rich and platelet-poor plasma on the growth- of pathogenic bacteria

Background:The utility and efficacy of novel materials in tissue regeneration and antimicrobial therapy are contingent upon the employment of either blood derivatives rich in platelets or platelet-poor-plasma (PPP). This effect is largely mediated by the increased or decreased concentration of platelets in the plasma. The current study aimed t...
